PRIVACY POLICY

Last updated October 11, 2026

Please read first. Tempo is a passion project, not a company. It is in beta, so it will change, and we are working with our users on it together. Use it at your own risk. It is available only in the United States. Do not use Tempo if you need sensitive data protections, and please do not store things like health records, financial account or card numbers, government ID numbers, or passwords in it.

This Privacy Policy is from Ian Leaman, a sole proprietor ("Tempo," "we," "us," or "our"). It explains how we handle personal information when you use temponotes.com, Tempo for Mac, Tempo for iPhone, Tempo Cloud, and related services (the "Services"). We are responsible for the decisions about how your information is processed. If you do not agree with this policy, please do not use the Services.

Summary

  • Tempo stores your notes as plain markdown files on your own computer. Files that stay local stay local.
  • If you use Tempo Cloud, we host that content for you on Cloudflare and Neon in the United States.
  • We collect your name and email to run your account, and payment is handled by Stripe. We never see your card numbers.
  • Basic statistics about app opens, crashes and feature use are always collected. Detailed reports through PostHog (usage events, error reports and masked session details) are collected only if you choose them during setup or in Settings → Privacy.
  • We may use content you store in Tempo Cloud, and usage data, for AI training or labeling purposes. You can turn that off in Settings → Privacy.
  • We do not sell your data, show ads, or use advertising trackers.
  • You can ask for access, correction, deletion or export at feedback@temponotes.com.

1. What information we collect

Information you give us. Your name and email address when you create an account, the content you store in Tempo Cloud (notes, files, contacts and CRM entries), messages you send us, and your workspace and team settings. In a team workspace, the Owner can see and manage the content in it. If you sign in with Google or GitHub, we receive the profile details those providers share, such as your name and email address. We do not collect sensitive personal information on purpose, and you should not store government ID numbers or payment card numbers in Tempo Cloud.

Payment information. Payments are handled by Stripe. We receive limited billing details from Stripe, such as plan, status, billing country and the last four digits of a card. We do not receive full card numbers.

Apps you connect (optional). If you connect Notion in Settings → Connections, Tempo on your computer connects directly to Notion with your permission and reads only the pages you choose to import. Tempo keeps the access Notion grants in your computer's keychain. That content does not pass through our servers unless you import it into a Tempo Cloud workspace. You can disconnect at any time in Settings → Connections, and you can also remove Tempo's access from Notion's own settings.

Information collected automatically. When you use the Services we collect technical information such as IP address, device and operating system type, app version, language, country, and how and when you use features. We use it to keep the Services secure and working.

Analytics and error reports. During setup the apps ask you to choose between two options, and neither is selected for you. Share detailed reports: we use PostHog to collect usage events, automatic error reports and masked session details, which record how you interact with the app screen with your text hidden. Basic usage counts only: we collect none of those; we still count basic statistics for your account, such as app opens, crashes and which features are used, so we can keep Tempo running and fix problems. These counts never include the content of your pages. You can change your choice at any time in Settings → Privacy.

Device features. If you allow them, the apps may use your microphone for speech-to-text, your approximate location, and push notifications. Speech-to-text and summaries run on your device with local models, and nothing is sent to an AI provider by those features.

Information from AI agents you connect. If you connect your own AI agent to Tempo, for example through MCP, that agent can read and write content in Tempo under the permissions you give it. The company that runs the agent handles what the agent reads under its own terms and privacy policy, not ours.

2. How we use your information

We use personal information to:

  • create and manage your account and provide Tempo Cloud, syncing and sharing;
  • process payments, send receipts, and manage your subscription and trial;
  • keep the Services secure, prevent fraud and abuse, and fix errors;
  • understand and improve the product, if analytics is on;
  • train AI models and label data, as described in section 3;
  • answer your questions and support requests;
  • send important service notices, and marketing email only if you opt in;
  • comply with the law and enforce our Terms.

3. Using content to train AI

We may use content you store in Tempo Cloud, and usage data from the Services, for AI training or labeling purposes. "Usage data" means information about how you use the Services, such as events and error reports, not the content of your files. We do not use files that exist only on your computer. If you turn this off in Settings → Privacy, we stop using your content and usage data for training from that point on. Content already used to train a model may not be removable from that model. In a team workspace, the Owner can manage this setting for the workspace.

4. Availability

Tempo is available only in the United States. We do not offer the Services outside the United States.

5. Who we share information with

We share information only with the service providers that help us run Tempo, and only as needed. They are listed on our Service Providers page: WorkOS (sign-in), Stripe (payments), Cloudflare (hosting), Neon (database), PostHog (analytics; detailed reports only if you choose them), and Simple Product (product feedback you choose to send). We may also share information if the law requires it, to protect rights, safety and security, or in connection with a merger, sale or transfer of the business, including to a successor entity such as Anti Gravity Labs LLC. We do not sell your personal information and do not share it for advertising.

6. Cookies and tracking technologies

We do not use advertising cookies or ad tracking. Our website and apps use only the storage and technologies needed to sign you in, keep your preferences, and, run PostHog analytics as described above. We do not respond to Do-Not-Track browser signals, because there is no agreed standard for them.

7. Social sign-in

If you sign in with Google or GitHub, we receive the profile information they share, which is usually your name and email address. We use it only to create and secure your account. We do not control how those providers use your information, so please review their privacy policies.

8. Where your data is stored

Tempo Cloud content is hosted on Cloudflare (Workers, Durable Objects and R2) and Neon Postgres in the United States. Tempo is available only in the United States.

9. How long we keep your information

We keep your information while your account is active. Pages you delete are kept for 30 days and then removed. If you delete your account, content we host is removed after that 30-day window. We may keep limited records longer where the law requires, or to prevent fraud and resolve disputes. Analytics data is kept only as long as needed for the purposes above.

10. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information. No system is completely secure, and we cannot promise that information will never be accessed or lost, so keep your own copies of content that matters to you.

11. Children

The Services are for people who are at least 18 years old. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact feedback@temponotes.com and we will delete it.

12. Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access the personal information we hold about you, correct it, delete it, receive a copy of it in a portable format, object to or restrict some processing, withdraw consent, and appeal a decision about your request. California residents have rights under the CCPA, including to know, delete and correct, and to opt out of sale or sharing. We do not sell or share personal information for advertising. We will not treat you differently for using your rights.

To use these rights, email feedback@temponotes.com. We may need to verify your identity first. You can export your content as plain markdown at any time, and you can delete your account by emailing us.

Categories collected in the last 12 months (California). Identifiers (name, email, IP address); commercial information (subscription and billing status); internet and device activity (usage events, error reports, masked session details if you choose detailed reports); and content you store in Tempo Cloud. We disclose these only to the service providers on our Service Providers page, for business purposes.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. We will post the new version with a new "Last updated" date. Continuing to use the Services after a change means you accept the updated policy. If we transfer the business to a successor entity, this policy continues to apply to your information.
